A distinguished english Lord named John George Charles Henry Alton Alexander Talbot visited Madeira Island and was enchanted with the view and the quiet of a property in Caniçal, at a place called Piedade.
He was so fascinated that he soon purchased the property and had a residence built.
Unfortunately, he never got to use it.
5th October 1992
Father Joseph Feiter, a Dutchman, the legal representative of the Regular Canons of the Holy Cross was authorised by the Order to sell the house called "Nossa Senhora da Piedade".
26th August 1993
The Sacred Congregation of the Religious Order in Rome granted the written permission required by Canonical Law to sell "Nossa Senhora da Piedade", the house owned by the order.
27th January 1996
The contract of purchase and sale was signed between Father José Feiter and the company Quinta do Lorde S.A. Once in the possession of the company, the old house was transformed into an inn.
1979
The property was sold to the Congregation of the Regular Canons of the Holy Cross and turned into a place of worship and reflection.
November 2002
The Marina was built in the bay.
2007
New installations to support the Marina were inaugurated, along with some apartments and restaurants, namely, the Lord's Club Restaurant and Captain's Bar.
2008
The 2nd phase of the construction of the new Quinta do Lorde Resort was begun, projected to be concluded at the end of 2012. The Resort includes a five-star hotel, and a tourist complex with apartments, residences, shops, restaurants and leisure areas.
28th June 2013
Quinta do Lorde Resort opened in presence of the Madeira Island government President, Dr. Alberto João Cardoso Gonçalves Jardim. The ceremony gathered 600 guests that after a guided tour by the resort, were presented with a buffet and a live show music of the portuguese artist Rui Veloso.
